Congressional Kids Day Overview

Volunteers will assist in presenting a lesson on African Americans in Congress from 1971-2007. The students will be assigned to read the essay entitled "Permanent Interests: The Expansion, Organization, and Rising Influence of African Americans in Congress form 1971 -2007" in advance. Volunteers assisting high school juniors and seniors will present a short lesson educating students on voters rights issues.

The essay covers the rise of the number of African Americans in Congress in the 1970s, the formation of the Congressional Black Caucus and the legislative interests of the CBC. Volunteers will be given a copy of the essay as well as the lesson plan before arriving to the school. Volunteers will be split into groups of three or four and lead the class discussion.

Thank you for your overwhelming response! Due to capacity, registration for Congressional Kids Day is now closed.
