Community for Creative Non-Violence

The CCNV is the largest homeless shelter and provider of homeless services in the United States and one of the largest in the world. CCNV is committed to protecting the rights of the homeless, advocating on behalf of the underserved and preparing homeless men and women to re-enter into mainstream society as skilled and productive citizens.

Ethiopian Community Development Council

The ECDC provides a helping hand to bring hope, workable solutions, and opportunities to the lives of thousands of refugees. The ECDC conducts educational and social service programs that help newcomers resettle in their new communities. NBLSA volunteers will partner with the ECDC to organize donations and participate in small projects to assist refugees resettle. This service opportunity support's NBLSA's goal for international outreach.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

The ReStore is a resale business that sells new and used building materials and home improvement items to the general public. All materials are donated locally by retail businesses, building contractors, suppliers and individuals, and are made available for sale to the public at 50% - 90% below retail prices. All proceeds from ReStore sales are used by Northern Virginia Habitat affiliate to build decent, affordable homes for families in need. Volunteer opportunities are available six days a week, at both locations.

  • What | Volunteers at the ReStores accept donations; assess the usability of donations; clean, assemble, repair and price donations prior to stocking; stock donations on the sales floor; and keep the store inventory organized and clean.

Unveiling the White House (CLOSED)

Join NBLSA in learning about different offices in the White House. Students will travel to the White House to meet those in the Administration. Head officials from the Office of Public Engagement, Council on Environmental Quality, and others will meet with NBLSA students and engage in roundtable discussions about NBLSA's involvement in the different areas. Learn about what each office is doing relating to legal issues, the African American community and students.
