MembershipWHAT IS NBLSA?The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), founded in 1968, is a national organization formed to articulate and promote the needs and goals of Black law students and effectuate change in the legal community. As the largest student run organization in the United States with nearly 6,000 members, NBLSA is also comprised of chapters and affiliates in six different countries including The Bahamas, Nigeria, and South Africa. Organized into six regions (Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southern, Mid-West, Rocky Mountain and Western), the organization has nearly 200 chapters and is present in most of the nation's ABA accredited law schools, as well as unaccredited law schools. NBLSA encourages the development of talented, social conscious lawyers of tomorrow. Each year, the organization holds an Annual Convention to engage in legal activism and prepare new generations of Black lawyers to "effectuate change." Additionally, the Frederick Douglass Moot Court, Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial, and International Negotiations Competitions are held during its Annual Convention. Membership RegistrationMembership registration for the 2010-2011 academic year will take place online. • Membership dues are $35 per person per year. Students admitted to the law school in the Spring semester will not be assessed a late fee until February 15, 2011. Chapters with Spring admits must contact the National Director of Membership at membership@nblsa.org prior to registering them.
