In March of 2002, at NBLSA's General Convention, the body voted to create a National Mock Trial Competition, in order to develop future lawyers with strong courtroom skills as they prepare for various components of a trial. Each year, hundreds of competitors compete on the regional levels in the hopes of ultimately becoming one of the top three teams in the Nation. I challenge all of you to continue sharpening your trial advocacy skills through participation in the TMMTC.

Competition Improvements

This year promises to be a transformative one as there are many exciting improvements and changes to the competition under way.

First, registration will occur online (link will be posted once registration opens) this year.

Second, competitors will have access to a more streamlined grievance process and will be competing under less strict anonymity rules.

Third, spectators will be allowed to observe beginning in the quarterfinal rounds. This is subject to space availability and will be determined by the Regional Directors and National Director for each of their respective competitions.

Fourth, teams will have the opportunity to choose from additional case materials this year. Both the prosecution and defense will have an opportunity to choose which two witnesses, out of the three provided, that they would like to use to craft a theory of their case and to present their case-in-chief.

Lastly, teams will now be presented with the final breakdown of scores, in all trials, following the end of each round. The tabulation will depict the match-up of teams, who won and who lost, and the point differential.
