Message from the 2010-2011 MABLSA Chair![]() Mid-Atlantic Regional Chair Greetings MABLSA Family! On behalf of your 2010 - 2011 MABLSA Executive Board, we are extremely honored to serve the greatest and most dynamic region of NBLSA! We are already hard at work in order to enrich your law school experience and to ensure that you are equipped with the necessary skills to become a great servant leader, as well as an exceptional lawyer. This year, MABLSA is ecstatic about carrying out the national vision, The Legacy of Empowerment, by taking you to "The Next Level: MABLSA Strong - Standing Together Reaching Out Nurturing a New Generation." Our theme succinctly articulates what we will accomplish this year! It is imperative that we come together and stand as one in order to rise to the next level. In doing this, we will not only be able to empower ourselves, but we will also empower those in our surrounding communities by ensuring that our voices are no longer oppressed, but are instead heard and respected. In order for us to come together, we must first break downthe walls by ensuring open lines of communication. This year, we will do this by becoming more accessible and transparent to ensure that our members are abreast of everything that is going on with both MABLSA and NBLSA. In addition to our quarterly newsletters, we will send out bi-weekly e-mails to all of our active members. Further, we have created a MABLSA TWEN site, as well as a Twitter account, which will feature announcements and highlight opportunities for you to become involved. Our TWEN site will serve as a centralized avenue of communication that will feature important documents, the entire 2010-2011 executive board's contact information, as well as a live calendar of events. Additionally, in order to ensure that you are being adequately heard, we will institute monthly "Chat with the Chair" teleconferences, which will be held the first Sunday of every month at 9:00 pm EST. This year, we are focused on ensuring your professional and personal development, as well as coming together as a family. Thus, we will be kicking off the year with our much anticipated Job Fair, Professional Development, and Leadership Weekend from August 27-29, 2010. This event will feature panels, workshops, a networking reception, our Leadership Retreat, and the opportunity to win various prizes!! Following this, we will host our inaugural Membership Retreat from October 8 -10, 2010. The retreat will feature a Hunger Awareness Banquet and an Academic Retreat providing programs and workshops intricately designed to address and meet your needs - irrespective of where you are in your law school career. We will also be hosting several memorable events throughout the year, which will culminate at our 43rd Annual Regional Convention, which will take place February 2-6, 2011 at The Hyatt Regency Baltimore of the Inner Harbor. For over 40 years, NBLSA has made a profound impact in the legal profession, as well as in our surrounding communities. We would like to personally challenge you to carry the torch and ensure that the flame only grows brighter and stronger by continuing the great NBLSA legacy. We are here for you and look forward to meeting every single member of our Mid-Atlantic family this year. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. In MABLSA Love, Starr L. Brookins |
