Message from the SRBLSA Chair![]() Southern Regional Chair Greetings SRBLSA, On behalf of the BLSA family, the Southern Regional Executive Board would like to unveil to you the 2010-2011 calendar of events. Humbled by the opportunity to serve as your Regional Chair, I am eager to build on the tradition of excellence that is expected by each BLSA member. Your regional board is diligently working to develop, implement, and facilitate initiatives that will benefi our members. We have selected "Empowerment through Involvement" as the impetus for each event, program, and workshop we create this year. As our members compete for jobs in these economically stressful times, it is imperative to provide them with effective programs, which will enhance their knowledge and skills, and create valuable opportunities to display their talents. With that in mind our events and programming in the coming year will feature two job fairs and substantive academic retreats and workshops to accomplish these objectives. The first event of the 2010-2011 academic year will be our Job Fair in Miami, Florida, where potential employers will be exposed to the outstanding array of talent within SRBLSA. Moving further into the year, the Academic Retreats will provide pertinent information and relevant seminars to foster the development of our members. The year will culminate in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Regional Convention, which will serve as the site of our second Job Fair. Throughout the year, I encourage all members to become involved in their chapters and communities. As America's future leaders and advocates, it is imperative to gain exposure and understanding about the issues and concerns that plague African American communities. Additionally, we hope that every local chapter will make a concerted effort to increase membership this year. The SRBLSA board will provide guidance and resources to aid each chapter in its endeavors. Finally, we will remain steadfast in our adherence to national initiatives while ensuring to meet the distinctive needs of the Southern region. Sincerely, Van Freeman |
