2013 MLK Day of Service Recap
On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of 2013 members of MABLSA's Philadelphia-Sub Region collaborated with the local chapter of the National Bar Association and the Barrister's Association for a day of service. Local attorneys and MABLSA members assisted forty 12th grade students with a senior project focused on persuasive and informative speaking styles. These students needed to pass this project in order to graduate and our goal was to give them the necessary confidence, skills, and preparation. Volunteers separated students into small groups and everyone used the training materials and their own personal knowledge to teach. The students practiced using different Martin Luther King speeches. Each student was required to perform a section of a speech in the small the group using the skills they learned. Six students were selected to compete against their classmates in a competition that afternoon. The students were enlightened and inspired to continue with their project and perfect their public speaking.
