National Black Law Students Association welcomes Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia SotomayorBlack law students applaud the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, hailed as the most experienced candidate for Supreme Court Justice to be nominated in the past century. (05/26/09) Washington, D.C. - The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) support Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. The nomination of Sonia Sotomayor is a credit to our country's current focus on meaningful change. Sotomayor's confirmation would make her the first Hispanic to serve on the Court. "The nomination of Sonia Sotomayor by President Obama demonstrates the current administration's commitment not only to change, but also to shaping a government that better reflects American beliefs and ideals," said Tiffany Munsell, the organization's National Chair. Sonia Sotomayor has served as a judge on the US Court of Appeals of the Second Circuit since 1998. During her eleven-year tenure as a federal appeals judge, her practical and insightful approach to interpreting our nation's laws has shown her commitment to upholding the principles and ideals set forth in the Constitution. Judge Sotomayor's work as a lecturer at Columbia University School of Law and an adjunct-professor at New York University Law School firmly establish her continued commitment to legal education. Both her dedication to legal education and her distinguished legal career make Judge Sotomayor an overwhelmingly qualified choice to be the next Supreme Court justice. The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), founded in 1968, is a national organization formed to articulate and promote the needs and goals of Black law students and effectuate change in the legal community. The largest student run organization in the United States with over 7,000 members, NBLSA is also comprised of chapters or affiliates in six different countries including the Bahamas, Nigeria and South Africa. ### Contact: Alicia A.
