NBLSA to host Lending Rally in support of fair lending standards for student loans(9/14/2009) Washington, D.C. -The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) will lead a "Lending Rally" at John Marshall Park on Thursday, September 24 from Noon to 1PM as part of a host of activities during Congressional Black CaucusWeekend. This rally is part of a larger effort of the NBLSA membership to exercise its political power to lobby on behalf of students who must borrow money to finance their education. Specifically, NBLSA wants Congress to ensure that all students are able to borrow money at affordable rates, according to reasonable terms. Further, students seeking public interest or public service careers should have ample avenues for debt forgiveness. This rally will include guest speakers and law students advocating on behalf of such changes. "This is not a Black problem or even a law student problem," said Tiffany Munsell, the Organization'sNational Chair. "This is an American problem. We must ensure that education is accessible to all who seek it." The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), founded in 1968, is a national organization formed to articulate and promote the needs and goals of Black law students and effectuate change in the legal community. The largest student run organization in the United States with more than 7,000 members, NBLSA is also comprised of chapters or affiliates in six different countries including the Bahamas, Nigeria and South Africa. Briefly: National Black Law Students Association will host a "Lending Rally" for fair student lending standards on Thursday, September 24 from Noon to 1 PM at John Marshall Park (501 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001). ### Contacts: Melvin Felton, Director of Communications Chibundu Nnake, Social Action Chair |
