Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition

In March of 2002, at NBLSA's General Convention, the body voted to create a National Mock Trial Competition, in order to develop future lawyers with strong courtroom skills as they prepare for various components of a trial. Each year, hundreds of competitors compete on the regional levels in the hopes of ultimately becoming one of the top three teams in the Nation. To date, the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition (TMMTC) is one of the largest, most respected law school mock trial competitions in the country.

Competition Improvements

The TMMTC continues to improve every year and remains committed to cultivating superior advocacy skills in each of its competitors. As such, the following exciting improvements have been made to the competition:

  • All official TMMTC competition and registration materials will be centrally located on the NBLSA TMMTC homepage.
  • The structure of the competition now consists of three (3) qualifying rounds, followed by one (1) single-elimination semi-final round, one (1) third place and one (1) final round.
  • Team advancement will first be determined by overall win/loss record, followed by point differentials.
  • The duration of all rounds will be limited to 75 minutes per round.
